Summary
In a world where the environment was being ravaged by humans, Mother Nature decided to take matters into her own hands and declared war on the humans. After the war has ended, where nature triumphed over the humans, the surviving humans are being carted off to prisons, including Guy, a low key individual who seemed uninspired and not concerned about the war. While in prison, Guy befriends a group of individuals including a dog, a bowling ball, an ear of corn, a bee, and a gopher named Abner. In a short time Guy becomes close with his new friends and is heartbroken to hear that each one of them has been imprisoned under contrived pretenses under the power corrupt Mother Nature. Guy decides that he will break them out of prison and try to set things right for each of his friends.
Guy embarks on a tale of travels across the lands and is faced with his share of hardships, including a barnyard battle, a ferocious bear, a know-it-all river, two intellectual chimps, and a city built by machines. To overcome the various challenges Guy and his friends must use physical prowess, mental ability, wit, and aid from many new friends. Through his journey, Guy realizes that the world had become a horrid place under the cruel reign of Mother Nature and Guy vows to stand up to her.

Although Abner is small in stature, stricken with terrible eyesight, and aged in years, his heart, courage, and general willingness to help out those in need allow him to overcome any and all obstacles thrown his way along his quest for purpose. Much to Abner's pleasure, his tale is filled with a plentiful bounty of quirky and remarkable characters including a cast of pirates, a sadistic baker, a love or two, some numbers he could count on, and many other animals of all shapes and sizes. With each individual Abner aids, and with each barrier he overcomes, he learns a little bit more about life, and more importantly a whole lot more about himself.
